Lord, so many times, as any other day,
When we gather around the table to pray,
We hurry along and make fast the blessing
Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing!
We’re slaves to the olfactory overload,
We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold.
But Lord, I’d like to take a few minutes more
To really give thanks for what I’m thankful for.
For my family, my health, a nice soft bed,
My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head.
I’m thankful right now to be surrounded by those
Whose lives touch me more than they’ll possibly know
Thank You, Lord, that You’ve blessed me beyond measure,
That inside my heart lives life’s greatest treasure.
That You, dearest Jesus, reside in that place,
And I’m ever so grateful for Your unending grace.
So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You’ve provided,
And bless each and every person invited.
Amen!
I thought that was a nicely composed prayer-poem. I may end up reading that in our family’s pre-dinner prayer, but we’ll see. My mom may have her own plans of what I’m reading for that.
Let’s bow our heads. Dear Father, as we gather with friends and family this Thanksgiving time, I pray that amidst the preparation and bustle, we do take our time to give You thanks. We lift up tomorrow night’s Thanksgiving Eve service – may it remind us of the many ways You are working in all our lives. We thank You, Lord, for all You’ve done, and all You continue to do. Amen.
